  • The main purpose of the process is to ensure that the existing building structure to operate business from is OHS compliance and safe. All land developments, including the establishment of SME operations, must conform to the town planning scheme drawn by the Town and Country Planning Department.

    All business layouts and sites in urban and rural areas have to be inspected by the respective Town/City Council or Local Authority. Businesses that meet and satisfy the prescribed requirements will obtain approval by the respective Council or Authority. For the outer islands like Kadavu, the Health Inspector been the rural local authority representative on the island also conducts building inspections to ensure adherence to proper OHS and structural plans for businesses set-up in the village.
